The International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) 2025 Poster Contest, organized by the Compost Research & Education Foundation, aims to promote global awareness about the benefits of composting. The contest invites artists aged 14 and older from around the world to create a poster that embodies the theme "Sustainable Communities Begin with Compost!" This theme highlights the essential role of composting in building sustainable communities by managing waste effectively, enhancing soil health, and contributing to the fight against climate change. Each year, ICAW selects a new theme to focus public attention on different aspects of composting, making it a vital part of the broader environmental conservation efforts.

Participants in the ICAW 2025 Poster Contest are encouraged to submit creative designs that emphasize the importance of composting in various community settings, from backyard composting to large-scale municipal programs. The contest seeks to educate the public about how composting can reduce landfill waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and improve soil fertility. By featuring the winning poster in promotional materials, ICAW aims to spread the message of composting’s benefits far and wide, reaching diverse audiences and encouraging community engagement and participation in composting activities during the first full week of May 2025.

The winning poster, which will be selected by a panel of judges, will receive a prize of $500. The design will be reproduced and distributed nationally and internationally, serving as a key visual element in ICAW’s educational campaign. The contest is free to enter, making it accessible to a wide range of participants who share a passion for environmental sustainability and creative expression. This initiative not only rewards artistic talent but also underscores the critical role of composting in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal #11, which focuses on creating inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities.
