The Batsford Prize is an annual student award organised by leading art publisher Batsford. Now in its sixth year, the award is open worldwide to undergraduate and postgraduate students of fine and applied art, fashion and illustration.

The theme of The Batsford Prize 2018 is ‘Craving Colour’. Entries should show innovative and well-crafted interpretations of colour, in terms of subject or materials used, or a combination of the two.

    There are five categories:

    • Applied Arts
    • Fine Art
    • Fashion
    • Illustration
    • Children’s Illustration

Entries should be comprised of up to 5 digital images of the work, OR a digital version of a picture book/graphic novel, OR a video (plus stills). Plus a supporting statement of up to 500 words (to be included on the entry form).

The submitted work should be original to the student and any copyright cleared (if necessary). Both works created as a part of the students’ coursework and personal works are accepted for entry. Professional works created for clients or due to be published in a professional context will not be accepted.

There’s a limit of one entry per person.

    There’s no entry fee.
