Delivered by the Association of Illustrators in partnership with the USA-based Directory of Illustration, the World Illustration Awards promotes exceptional work by illustrators and presents illustration as a major force in global visual culture. The Awards are international and open worldwide to illustrators working across all sectors and in any medium.
This year, the Awards feature, for the first time, cash prizes for the overall winners, updated categories and new judges drawn from the world’s best-commissioning agencies and businesses.
Work must be entered into one of the 8 categories. These are very broadly defined to welcome work of all types and in all contexts where illustration is used:
• Advertising
• Books
• Children's Books
• Design
• Editorial
• Experimental
• Site Specific
• Research
Work must be entered as either a New Talent entry or a Professional entry. New Talent entrants are students or those within 2 years of graduation / entering the illustration world. Professional entrants are all other professional illustrators.
Entrants can submit as many entries as they choose and in as many different categories as they feel is appropriate.
Entry fees:
• 25 GBP per Single Entry, 45 GBP per Multiple Entry; or
• 30 EUR per Single Entry, 54 EUR per Multiple Entry; or
• 33 USD per Single Entry, 60 USD per Multiple Entry
Eligibility
Illustrators in any country working in any medium or content can enter work created between January 2017 and February 2018. Work may be entered by the creator or third parties such as agents, colleges or commissioners.
Prize
This year there are cash prizes for the two Overall Winners – Professional and New Talent. Moreover, the Overall Professional Winner will receive 1 full page in Directory of Illustration No. 35. including an online portfolio with 100 images.
Award Winners will be announced at a prestigious ceremony at Somerset House, the major arts and cultural centre in the heart of London. Selected works will be exhibited in their spectacular Terrace Rooms before touring the UK, as well as being showcased in an accompanying publication, which will be circulated to all major commissioners of illustration.
Following its display at Somerset House the exhibition tours to multiple venues across the UK. This national tour receives approximately 40,000 visitors during its run. A publication will be also launched to coincide with this exhibition.
