Entry is now open for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2017, the leading international photographic portrait competition, which celebrates and promotes the very best in contemporary portrait photography.

Organised by the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Prize has established a reputation for its diversity of photographic styles submitted by a range of photographers, from gifted amateurs and photography students to established professionals.

In the Prize's search for excellence, photographers are encouraged to interpret 'portrait' in its widest sense of "photography concerned with portraying people with an emphasis on their identity as individuals".

You can submit up to six photographs (black and white or colour).

Photographers selected for the exhibition will need to provide the Gallery with a TIFF file of their photograph for use in the catalogue and exhibition marketing campaign. This file would need to be a minimum of 350dpi, 4800 pixels on the shortest side.

The entry fee for this competition is 28 GBP (approx. 40 USD) per photograph entered.

Open to everyone aged 18 and over from around the world. Previous winners of the Prize, since and including 2008, are not eligible to enter the competition.

The winner of the competition will receive 15,000 GBP (approx. 19,428 USD).

All selected photographers under the age of 35 will also be eligible for the John Kobal New Work Award. The winning photographer will receive 5,000 GBP (approx. 6,476 USD) and a commission from the Gallery to photograph a sitter connected with the UK film industry.

The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2017 exhibition will run at the Gallery from 16 November 2017 to 4 February 2018 before touring to venues around the UK.
