The Royal Society of Biology Photography Competition 2025 is an annual showcase that celebrates the art of photography combined with a passion for biology, wildlife conservation, and environmental awareness. This year’s compelling theme, "Restoring Biodiversity and Habitat," encourages amateur photographers from around the world to capture captivating images that highlight nature’s resilience and the global efforts aimed at restoring ecosystems. Participants are invited to share photographs that not only demonstrate technical skill but also convey powerful narratives about biodiversity, habitat recovery, and ecological balance.

Photographers can enter their work into one of two distinct categories: Photographer of the Year, designated for entrants aged 18 and over, and Young Photographer of the Year, targeted at young talent under the age of 18. Each submission will be judged on criteria including creativity, originality, visual impact, and its ability to inspire action or increase awareness about biodiversity restoration and habitat conservation. The competition offers a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to have their photographs exhibited widely, providing a platform to educate and engage audiences with the vital importance of environmental protection and sustainability.

This prestigious contest is part of the Royal Society of Biology’s broader mission to promote a deeper public understanding of biology and its critical role in addressing contemporary global challenges. By participating, amateur photographers not only contribute visually stunning images but also support advocacy efforts aimed at driving awareness and action around biodiversity loss and habitat destruction. The competition emphasizes that photography is more than just an artistic endeavor—it is a powerful educational tool capable of influencing perceptions, inspiring dialogue, and catalyzing change in the quest for a more sustainable and ecologically vibrant planet.
