The Phodar Series Awards 2025, marking the 13th edition of the "Fodar" International Photo Festival Biennale, commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Phodar Foundation. This year’s theme, "Photographic Reality," delves into the evolving role of photography in an era where image creation and dissemination have become ubiquitous. The competition invites photographers to explore how the widespread accessibility of photographic tools and platforms has transformed visual storytelling and the perception of reality.
In today’s digital age, nearly everyone with a smartphone can capture and share images instantly, leading to a democratization of photography. Social media platforms have further accelerated this trend, making visual communication a central aspect of daily life. The theme "Photographic Reality" encourages participants to examine the implications of this shift, particularly how digital images influence personal identity, social interactions, and the distinction between virtual and physical experiences. Photographers are prompted to consider whether virtual reality conflicts with physical reality or if they converge to create new, unforeseen horizons.
The competition also addresses the emergence of artificial intelligence in photography, questioning its role in shaping this new visual language. Participants are encouraged to reflect on the historical, informational, and philosophical dimensions of "Photographic Reality," offering a comprehensive exploration of photography’s impact on contemporary society. By focusing on these multifaceted issues, the Phodar Series Awards 2025 aims to inspire photographers to contribute meaningful insights into the evolving power and significance of photography in the modern world.
