Head On Photo Festival is Australia's most prestigious photography event and one of the world’s leading photography festivals. It is also Australia’s only annual photography festival.

Held in Sydney over three weeks, it hosts numerous free events and exhibitions, low-cost workshops and talks led by Australian and international industry professionals.

The Festival encompasses the prestigious Head On Photo Awards, which represent a global selection of the best work from emerging and established photographers across 4 categories:

    • Portrait
    • Landscape
    • Mobile
    • Student

Your entry can be taken using any photographic device (except for the Head On Mobile Prize for which you are required to have used a mobile device). Work submitted can have been taken at any time.

Copyright in the images remains the property of the photographer.

Entry fee for Portrait, Landscape, Mobile categories: 30 AUD (approx. 22 USD) per image. Student category: 1 AUD per image.

Open worldwide to professional, emerging and enthusiast photographers from Classical to Contemporary styles. The Head On Student Prize is instead open to Australia's young photographers (school years K-12).

Prizes will be awarded for the best 3 images in each category and the exhibition prints of these will be retained by Head On Foundation and added to the Head On Collection which contains the winners of Head On Photo Awards.

Winners will share a prize pool worth 50,000 AUD (approx. 37,700 USD).

The finalists of the Head On Photo Awards will be exhibited during Head On Photo Festival, May 2017 at the Museum of Sydney (Portrait, Mobile, Student), NSW Parliament (Landscape) and may tour Australia and internationally (exhibition and promotion costs will be covered by Head On Photo Festival).
