The Environmental Photography Award 2026 is an international photography competition created by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation to highlight the power of visual storytelling in addressing pressing environmental issues. Since its launch in 2021, the award has become a global platform for photographers who are committed to raising awareness of climate change, biodiversity loss, ocean conservation, and the fragile balance between humanity and nature. The competition brings together professional photographers, emerging talents, and passionate amateurs, offering them the opportunity to showcase powerful images that can inspire positive action and support conservation efforts worldwide.

The award is structured around five thematic categories—Ocean, Forests, Polar Regions, Changemakers, and Humanity versus Nature—each designed to reflect critical environmental challenges and opportunities. By focusing on these diverse themes, the competition encourages photographers to capture unique perspectives, from the beauty and vulnerability of natural ecosystems to the resilience of communities fighting for sustainability. The selected works serve not only as art but also as vital advocacy tools, bridging science, conservation, and public awareness through impactful visual communication.

In addition to the recognition and prizes, the Environmental Photography Award provides a platform for long-term visibility. Thirty-six selected photographs are featured in an international touring exhibition and published in a dedicated book, giving global audiences access to the award-winning works. The initiative also forms part of the Foundation’s broader Green Shift Initiative, which aims to accelerate sustainable solutions by connecting creative expression with environmental responsibility. By amplifying voices from around the world, the competition strengthens the role of photography as a catalyst for ecological awareness and meaningful change.

    There is no entry fee.

Winners of each of the five thematic categories receive a €1,000 cash prize, and the jury-selected Grand Prize winner (Environmental Photographer 2026) receives an additional €5,000 cash prize plus a round-trip to Monaco to collect their award; additionally, there are two further recognitions—a Public Award and a Students’ Choice Award—each accompanied by a €500 grant, with the Public Award winner also awarded the opportunity to visit SEK International University’s Amazon research station in Ecuador; the Official Selection of 36 photographs and winners will be announced mid-April 2026, with an exhibition to follow in Monaco during summer 2026, followed by a touring exhibition and the publication of a book featuring the selected works.
