The International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) 2026 Poster Contest is a global competition designed to highlight the importance of composting and its vital role in sustaining healthy soils, resilient food systems, and environmental stewardship. Organized annually by the Compost Research & Education Foundation, the contest invites artists from around the world to create compelling and original artwork based on the official 2026 theme, “Compost! Feed the Soil that Feeds Us.” The winning poster becomes the central visual for ICAW celebrations, serving as the face of international composting awareness campaigns that are promoted across schools, businesses, nonprofits, and government organizations.

The contest emphasizes creativity, clarity of message, and adherence to guidelines, including the requirement that all designs include the full contest theme text and meet the foundation’s artistic standards. To ensure fairness and authenticity, submissions created with artificial intelligence tools are not permitted, encouraging genuine talent and thoughtful design. The competition is divided into two age categories, Grades 9–12 and college/adults, so that both emerging young artists and professional designers have an opportunity to contribute their vision to this global sustainability movement.

Winning the ICAW Poster Contest is not only a recognition of artistic excellence but also a chance to support compost education and advocacy on an international scale. The selected artwork is distributed widely and becomes a central communication tool for promoting compost use and food waste reduction worldwide. By participating, artists contribute to raising awareness of compost’s benefits, from enriching soil and conserving water to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building a circular economy. This makes the contest a unique platform where art, environmental education, and global sustainability goals intersect.

    There is no entry fee.
