The 2024 Ocean Awareness Contest, operating under the inspiring theme "Tell Your Climate Story," provides a unique platform for young environmentalists and artists. Organized by Bow Seat, a renowned Massachusetts-based nonprofit, the contest seeks to engage students worldwide in addressing the urgent issue of climate change through creative expression. Participants are encouraged to delve into their personal experiences and observations of a changing climate, transforming these insights into compelling narratives and artworks. The contest’s central focus is to foster a deeper understanding of the climate crisis, emphasizing its impact on individuals, families, and communities. This initiative is a call to action, urging young people to reflect on their personal connection to the evolving environmental landscape and express it through various artistic mediums, including visual art, poetry, creative writing, film, and multimedia.

Emphasizing the global nature of climate change, the contest highlights how different regions experience its effects distinctly, from droughts in Kenya to floods in Pakistan, and rising sea levels threatening Pacific islands. This diversity of experiences offers a rich backdrop for participants to draw from, whether it’s the absence of snow days due to warm winters, the impact on local wildlife, or the scarcity of certain foods. By encouraging submissions in multiple categories like Visual Art, Poetry & Spoken Word, Creative Writing, Film, and Performing Arts, the contest not only embraces a wide range of creative talents but also amplifies the diverse voices and perspectives of youth on the global stage.

Bow Seat’s 2024 Ocean Awareness Contest not only aims to raise awareness about climate change but also strives to be a catalyst for environmental advocacy and action among the younger generation. As a leading platform in environmental education and art, Bow Seat provides resources and opportunities for students to explore environmental issues and express themselves creatively. The contest, open to students aged 11-18 globally, offers a chance to join a vibrant community of over 30,000 young environmentalists and artists. Participants can earn recognition, awards, and even cash prizes up to $1,000, fostering a sense of achievement and empowerment.
