In a world where violence and discrimination threaten global stability, the Aydin Doğan International Cartoon Competition was started on the premise that tolerance is more important than ever and that cartoons rely on tolerance and wisdom, and form one of the building blocks of societies open to differences of opinion and beliefs. Today the Aydin Doğan International Cartoon Competition is acknowledged in the world as the Oscar of cartoons. The competition has been organised for 27 years. So far, more than 6500 artists from 128 countries have taken part in the competition. These figures are indicative of the scope and importance of the award. Choice of subject is free. Only original cartoons will be accepted. Cartoons sent as printouts should bear original signatures of cartoonists. Photographs, photocopies, etc. will not be accepted. Size of cartoons should not exceed 29.7 x 42cm (A3 paper size). There is no entry fee. Eligibility: The competition is open to professional and amateur cartoonists from all over the world. Prize: • Winner: 8,000 USD • First Runner up: 5,000 USD • Second runner up: 3,500 USD • Success Award: 500 USD The jury, composed of leading cartoonists of Turkey and the world, will choose the fifteen cartoons worthy of the award. In addition to the awards for First Place, Second Place, and Third Place, twelve artists are given honorable mention. The remaining cartoons submitted to the International Jury are exhibited and printed in the annual album. The award ceremony will be held in September 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey. The Foundation will cover travel and accommodation expenses of the first three award-winning cartoonists for the award ceremony.
